What Anti-Freeze / Coolant does
As the names imply, anti-freeze/coolant not only keeps an engine cool, it stops the water that cools your engine from freezing when the outside temperature drops below freezing. It also provides protection from corrosion, aids heat transfer and prevents scale from building up inside the engine.
How it works
It’s designed to lower the freezing point and increase the boiling point of any water-based liquids.
Why the different names?
Quite simply, anti-freeze is the chemical additive and coolant is the resulting mixture of the anti-freeze and water. The water that the coolant is mixed with has a major influence on the effectiveness of the coolant. Because the water quality differs from country to country and region to region. Quantum Mixing Water prevents scaling and furring of coolant systems and can also be used for all de-ionised water applications such as battery water and the dilution of screenwash. Although the ratios vary from vehicle to vehicle.
A 50:50 mix of anti-freeze and water is an effective general starting point for all round, general protection.
What are the different types/colours?
Before we go any further, it needs to be stated that each colour of anti-freeze is a unique formula and the different colours must never be mixed. Now let’s get down to the details.
QUANTUM RED ANTI-FREEZE & SUMMER COOLANT
Quantum Red is suitable for use in all climates and provides all-year-round corrosion and freezing protection.
When diluted with clean water it can provide freezing protection in temperatures as low as -70°C.
It meets the performance requirements of most OEMs and national specifications, and protects all of the metals commonly used in engine construction (incl. aluminium) from corrosion and cavitation.
To ensure satisfactory freeze and corrosion protection, the recommended minimum concentration used is 35% by volume.
QUANTUM BLUE UNIVERSAL ANTI-FREEZE & SUMMER COOLANT
Quantum Blue is suitable for all climates and provides all-year-round corrosion and freezing protection.
As well as maintaining efficient cooling and preventing overheating, it lubricates moving parts (i.e. water pump) and protects all of the metals commonly used in engine construction (incl. aluminium) from corrosion and cavitation.
When diluted with clean water, Quantum Universal Anti-freeze and Summer Coolant can provide freezing protection to temperatures as low as -65°C.
To ensure satisfactory freeze and corrosion protection it’s recommended that the minimum concentration is 25% by volume. NEVER use at concentrations greater than 70% by volume.
