TPS accelerates electric vehicle numbers in its delivery fleet

TPS is supercharging its parts deliveries by adding more electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet - with fully electric models playing their part in helping to drive  more sustainable business operations.

In 2024, TPS added 30 all-electric CUPRA Born and Volkswagen ID. Buzz models into its delivery fleet - a 4% share of the overall fleet.

With these having proved a success, EV fleet numbers have been further boosted to 88 this year. This means one in ten of all vehicles carrying out deliveries to TPS customers are now fully electric.

They are already proving their worth, not only delivering parts to TPS customers but also delivering on Volkswagen Group’s sustainability ambitions.  The new EVs have saved 1,384 tonnes of CO2 over the contract lifecycle or equivalent to the weight of 923 Volkswagen Caddy vans.

Catherine Baker, One Aftersales Director for Volkswagen Group UK, said: said: “The addition of the EVs is a major boost to our strategy to electrify the TPS delivery fleet.

“Plans to accelerate our EV journey, helps to pave the way for our business to significantly cut its UK carbon footprint, driving the transformation of our delivery service that will benefit both the planet and our customers.”

As well as adding EVs to its delivery fleet, TPS is introducing other measures into the business to reduce its environmental impacts.

TPS is increasing its sustainable packaging options with a new 1 litre pouch for oil products currently being designed. The new pouch can be recycled and offers significant plastic savings compared to 1 litre plastic bottles - an equivalent saving of 43.5kg of plastic per 1,000 units - and is expected to be available in 2026.

It’s the latest in a line of sustainable packaging options from TPS that are proving their worth for the planet.

The Cube, a single-use, recyclable packaging system, is made from a strong, durable, cardboard outer which can be flat packed and placed with the normal recycling waste.

Available in 5L and 20L pack sizes, the Cube has proved popular with garages and workshops and since its introduction, making it easier store and pour. More importantly though, it has helped save over 645 tonnes of plastic - or equivalent to the weight of 496 Volkswagen Golf cars!

TPS’s supplier relationships are also helping with the drive to be more sustainable, with eco-friendly products available to customers from like minded businesses.

Unigloves, a Tier I supplier to TPS, produces it’s Nitrex sustainable range, which includes biodegradable gloves and gloves that are manufactured from recycled plastic.

The gloves are all certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, which means that they are not only kinder to the planet but contain no harmful substances that could impact workers’ health.

TPS will continue to explore environmentally friendly product options and pursue sustainable business practices and partnerships.
